The Christmas concept 2005 marked the beginning of the changeable facade design of the Breuninger flagship store. Since then, it has given a face to the Stuttgart market square and has become part of the cityscape. The aim of the design is to present the company with themes that change with the seasons.
Design background: A protruding steel pipe frame was mounted onto the original wooden facade about 5 metres above the canopy of the house and anchored of the facade. A rail system mounted on this lightweight construction ensures the guidance of the textile banner and the formation of distinctive corners and creates clear contours in surface area covering more than 700 square metres. The form of the taut banner is thus seemlessly integrated into the facade, which is well set back. The spaces between the banner and the existing facade emphasise the three-dimensional character and are positioned harmoniously as a homogenous feature of the building. Breuninger can vary its appearance by replacing the suspended textile banner.
