Material trends – Our five highlights for 2019

New year, new trends. We sought out our five highlights and have already conceptually integrated them into our projects. Our Heimtextil summary is as follows: Through new combinations, well-known classics become exciting. Nature and technology are the two major sources of inspiration. And: Materials arouse our emotions.

The art of creative combination

Traditional craftsmanship, Art Deco elements, and high-quality materials are set in new contexts and serve up a style that we perceive as being new and modern. Elaborate stitching and dazzling ornaments can once again be found in velvet, silk, or high pile carpets – is this the luxury of our time? There’s definitely a tactile and optical experience to it that we find inspiring, and the guests at one of our hotel projects may soon say the same 😉.

Real, virtual, and now tactile again – huh? Cool.

The fascinating thing about virtual reality is the blurring of boundaries between reality and fantasy. Our real world is virtually imitated and expanded. Now the digital, which is already part of our everyday lives, can once again be experienced in a tactile sense – and that’s through inspired designers who create material designs and installations with perplexing structures, reflective surfaces, and strong colors. We think it’s cool that one inspires the next. The chain is endless.

Timeless must be low-key

White, gray, beige, cream – unagitated, low-key, soothing, valuable. They provide the balance to a hectic everyday life that’s full of (optical) stimuli. These colors allow the eye to rest and your inner balance to recharge. On top of that, they are timeless and used year after year. They lend a special atmosphere where light and shadows create exciting shapes and structures. Repetitive stripes, in turn, convey a sense of order and balance.

Eternal: The relation to nature

As a constant antithesis to everything artificial, nature is and will remain an exciting and sought-after contrast to the networked world. Furthermore, it’s a source of inspiration for designers. Functional outdoor clothing and special equipment remind one of their closeness to nature that’s experienced through nature-based activities and adventures. This feeling is now finding its way inside thanks to functional textiles that make reference to outdoor materials and are available in camouflage colors such as khaki, green, and grey – not to mention signal colors like orange. Softshell and technical structures as part of an office concept? Sounds good!

Humor and optimism shine through in the design

Cheeky and loud or playfully chaotic – this is how we perceive color and structure combinations in this sense. If one sees these textiles in dialog with the world, they symbolize a never-ending optimism that defies uncertainty, instability, and problems. We see the twinkle in the designer’s eye and we have to smile and gain a thirst for color – you, too?
