Original, flexible and smart – our statement on hotel design

The exciting thing about the hotel sector is its multi-dimensional diversity: There are countryside and city hotels, sea, coast or mountain hotels. There are those who specialise – wellness, business, adventure – and those who combine them. Full board to self-catering, long-term tradition to pop-up hotels, fully automated to consciously analogue.

The directions are so different but one thing will never change: the aspiration to emanate a sense of wellbeing and to be a home away from home for a specific period of time, to attract new guests and keep the existing ones. We see it as our duty to make a hotel successful using customised, sustainable and authentic concepts and a holistic view on hotel architecture and hotel design, integrating terms such as identity, functionality and flexibility.

Hotel design is smart.

In terms of optimisation, our company is far ahead of the competition. The technological progress speeds up processes and creates a new experience – this is also true in the hotel sector. A smooth process is part of the service in a hotel and is expected to be self-explanatory. Yet features can be an exception today and a must-have tomorrow!

A »Smart Hotel« is intelligent, making the life of the hotel owner easier and responds to the customer’s individual wishes.

Quicker check in and simple booking channels for all services are on one side, with the early ascertainment of preferences, describing what makes the customer feel comfortable using »Customer Journey«, and multichannel interaction on the other: Before arriving at the hotel, the room is made ready with individualised lighting and desired atmosphere. What does that mean for us as architects? We understand the hotel industry and its challenges in order to provide our customers with a sustainable concept. As design and function go hand in hand. Innovative solutions are integrated into the design process from the beginning – that is the method that we live by.

Hotel design is identity.

Identity implies uniqueness – what makes a hotel unique? At the start of every design we ask ourselves this question, to respond with a design concept, that satisfies the question. The objective has been accomplished, if two factors can be recognised: the brand and the location of the hotel. The brand finds a personality during the design process using emotionalisation: It can be youthful, trend-oriented or timelessly elegant, wild, avant-garde, quiet, loud, modern, bourgeois, traditional, spontaneous – but in each case it should be authentic.

Originality attracts people and an open design conveys a sense of well being.

The location is the second identity-defining factor and is often the decider when choosing hotels. The architect conveys both factors by creating an impression using material and colour, open and closed rooms, facade structures and building shapes. The result is and will always be an interpretation of brand and location. That is what makes our job so fascinating and architecture worldwide so varied.

Hotel design is flexible.

What we have long since come to realise, when compared to previous generations: our lifestyle is influenced by flexibility, individuality and mobility. Quick change of scene, working on the go, here today, there tomorrow. It’s no wonder that our architectural concepts are geared towards a more modular and wide-ranging use with increasing tendency.

Hotels in particular, as places for temporary living, should use these opportunities provided by this transition.

We design multifunctional rooms used for meetings, events or co-working using modular architectural elements and create open lobbies with a bar and living room feel. We create all-round concepts appealing to holidaymakers, working people and residents, which offer shopping and space for working on the go as well as gastronomy and concerts. On the other side, there are hotels specialising resolutely on one aspect. Whether it’s an exciting experience or perfect calmness: Our mission is to convey quality in a uniform design language: An integral hotel concept makes the guest smile as they enter, takes them by the hand and leads them where they want to go.
