In the building of the former defensive barrack on the Petersberg in Erfurt, DIA-Dittel Architekten creates, on the occasion of the national garden show 2021, an innovative and emotionalizing presentation about Thüringen. With its prominent location right in the core of the national garden show, the space serves as a starting point for the explorers of Thüringen that are equally composed of tourists and locals.
In the center of the assignment is the creation of a hotspot that makes the facets of Thüringen to be experienced and builds an interconnection to the various external sites and UNESCO world heritages of the federal state. Additionally, the exhibition is supposed to contribute one decisive factor of attraction and serves as a visitor magnet for the national garden show 2021 Erfurt.
DIA structured the 3 consecutive rooms and the entrance area and assigned them to the 3 core topics that represent Thüringen: Nature, Local Color and Cultural History. For each topic, independent narratives and specific color- and material worlds were developed. This way, after a clear and open entrance gesture, the visitor, in the course of his exploration, dives into 3 different experience worlds. With the help of digital and analogue companions and elaborate exhibits, a well-balanced relation between information transfer and emotionalization occurs. Apart from the room concept, together with 7places, DIA-Dittel Architekten is also responsible for the digital and analogue content of the exhibition and the integration of multimedia technology. In an interdisciplinary, public competition, DIA-Dittel Architekten succeeded against the competitors. Especially the authenticity and detail of the concept as well as the target-group-oriented handling of innovative elements was decisive for the jury's decision. Additionally, the integration into the overall concept of the national garden show in consideration of the external areas was decisive.
