DIA Dittel Architekten has been awarded the contract for the high-quality refurbishment of the German Embassy in Brasilia in keeping with its listed status! In the negotiation procedure of the Federal Foreign Office, we were able to convince with our realisation concept in a strong field of bidders.
The embassy building was planned in the 1960s by star architect Hans Scharoun and completed in 1971 as one of the first embassies in Brasilia. It is the only project he realised abroad and one of the most important and architecturally and historically prominent foreign missions of the Federal Republic of Germany. The ensemble of buildings, consisting of a chancellery, residence, residential buildings, apartment complex and residence garden, is considered significant in terms of contemporary history and architectural history and worthy of preservation. Scharoun's organic architectural language, the design of the residence garden by Roberto Burle-Marx and the light art by Ferdinand Ris are to be categorised as worthy of preservation. The 2.5-hectare site is part of the Plano Piloto (administrative region), which was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and Lúcio Costa.
The redevelopment measures focus on preserving the valuable building fabric and meeting the differences in politics, construction and culture with flexibility and respect.
