We transform historical structures
into future-viable spaces.
We have a passion for preserving old buildings and transforming them into sustainable, forward-looking structures in their historical context. Rather than tearing down old buildings, we preserve resources and extend their useful life by redeveloping them in a way that brings out the best in their intrinsic qualities. Each restoration, renovation and repurposing is rooted in a careful analysis of the historical structures in question and of the requirements regarding construction and listed buildings. We integrate user needs and fuse contemporary aesthetics with the original context of the building.
For us, developing existing structures is a collaborative process. Working closely together with everyone involved and maintaining an open dialogue leads to solutions that allow the past, present and future to come together to form a harmonious whole.
Our
expetise
- Analysing existing structures and developing concepts: Our vast experience allows us to recognise the potential of existing buildings and to develop viable solutions for revitalising them.
- Inspecting existing structures: We examine the statics, analyse the materials used and possible pollutants – this paves the way for precise planning and reliable cost control.
- Conserving and transforming buildings: We preserve authentic elements and consciously integrate them when reshaping existing buildings into a form that will serve it well in many years to come.
- Regulatory security: The latest technical requirements and regulations relating to listed buildings are included in the planning stage.
- Safety and risk management: We involve specialist planners from the outset and ensure that the planning and construction process is verifiable, efficient and safe. We keep a close eye on project targets at all times.
- Maximum user acceptance: We create spaces that put people centre stage and our detailed planning focuses squarely on user needs.
We elevate the potential of your building –
with courage, expertise and the requisite flexibility
to take any unforeseen developments in our stride.
In short, everything we need to redevelop
existing buildings.
Dittel Architekten are revitalizing a historic industrial building through renovation and adaptive reuse, transforming it into a cultural center. In addition to the existing structures, a new building serves as a central connecting element and welcoming foyer. In April 2024, the site was officially opened as the “Hahnekiez Complex.”
With the maritime experience world, Dittel Architekten designed and realized a unique tourist attraction in the heart of the city of Papenburg. The interactive exhibition explores the city’s history as a trading and shipbuilding location — from its founding to the beginning of cruise ship construction — and brings it to life in an exciting and emotionally engaging way.

We recognise the potential of old buildings and shine a whole new light on their structure and the valuable elements that need to be retained. This in turn allows us to create spaces that combine the best of both worlds – past and future – to great effect.
